Information for Hair Transplantation

There are many cases of hair loss nowadays. The most common cause of it is genetic while others are due to illness, certain medication and ageing. And for most of the people who experience hair loss, hair transplant procedures could help them regain the appearance of full head of hair.

What is hair transplant?

Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure that involves moving individual strips of hair to be placed to a balding part of the body. The “donor” hair could be removed in two different ways: strip harvesting and follicular unit extraction.

Tips before proceeding to a hair transplant

·         Look for the best hair transplant procedure. Once you’ve known the most suitable hair transplant procedure for you, the effect could be life long and a natural look of full hair could be attained.

·         Ask and consult with patients and qualified physicians. Know everything you need to know. Ask and seek advice from the most knowledgeable person you could speak to either a patient who had done hair transplant or hair transplant physicians who could explain everything to you.

·         Look for the most skilled surgeon. The result of your hair transplant surgery may vary a lot depending on the skill and experience of a specific surgeon.

Donor and recipient site

You are your own donor. Hair from another individual would be rejected by your body unless you will take an immune-suppressant drug. You are the donor as well as the recipient. The “donor site” will come from the hair-bearing scalp commonly from the back of the head that will be move to the “recipient site” or the area with thin or no hair at all.

What happens after hair transplantation?

Your scalp may be very tender thus intake of pain relievers or medication for several days may be required.  Your surgeon might give you antibiotic or anti-inflammatory medicines after the surgery. You might also need and be required to rest and be back to work after five days from the day of the surgery to give your hair transplant enough time to heal. You could rub off the scabs within two weeks, comb your hair after a month and no chance of bleeding after two months.

Hair transplantation could give a life long effect if it is properly and perfectly done. Like any other surgeries, you need to know everything about the procedure and the does and don’ts after the surgery. Having a full beautiful hair is considered as one of the asset of a certain individual thus it should not be taken for granted and something to take care of.
