 Rhytidectomy is a medical term for face lift. It is a procedure that helps in the process of reducing facial wrinkle appearance and other visible signs of aging. The implementation of this enhances the overall appearance specifically in the face and jaw section. 

 This procedure is being practiced by facial plastic surgeon as he tries to reverse the harmful effects of time, stress and exposure to different elements. The procedure makes underlying muscles to tighten thereby creating aesthetically pleasing contours over the face. Subsequently, there is a rejuvenating facial structure to be formed. With Rhytidectomy also, excess pockets of fats and skin that makes someone looks older than he or she actually is could be removed. 

 

Rhytidectomy can go with other procedures like liposuction, autologous fat injection, eyelid surgery, necklift, removal of buccal , submalar or chin implants, hemical or laser peel, browlift, and forehead lift. These are often done to achieve better result than Rhytidectomy alone can do. 

 

The Performance of Face Lift

Face Lift procedure starts with the slit being created unto the hair or hairline just above and in front of the patient’s ear. In medical industry, this referred to as the temporal region. The cut would then be extended through the down line of the ears through the behind part until the upper part of the ear. The implementation of this then makes the underlying muscle and connective tissue to be lifted. Once done, the loose skin problem would be corrected. 

 

Face Lift procedure also pulls back the skin in an upward manner before removing the excess ones. There would be presence of wound in doing this which will then be closed through the use of sutures and skin staples. When bleeding comes along, the surgeon usually use bandage to address this occurrence.

 

After undergoing face lift, patient usually take about a week or so of rest to give way for his or her recovery. However, the patient can still do stuff a day after the procedure. In terms of results, face lift can lasts for ten years. 

 

Face Lift Complications

Like other medical treatment or procedures, the practice of face lift could have complications. In other words, there might be some risks with undergoing face lift.

 

During procedure, surgeons are able to inject anesthesia to the patient. Such may cause problem with breathing and allergic reactions. Other also encounter bleeding and infection with unpleasant scarring and changes in skin color. 

 

For some patients, more so, face lift could have an effect on the system of their body. This could include temporary damage on the nerves which act as an agent controlling the facial muscle. There is also a possibility of the patient to feel numbness and changes on skin sensation. 

Also included on the list of complications that may be encountered with face lift or Rhytidectomy are as follow:

• loss of hair around the area where cut was made

• loss of skin from tissue death

• bruising

• fluid that are being collected under skin

• irritation or sensitivity
